It was established in 2017 that China effectively ended a two-year coal export boycott. Australian coal exports have been a focal point of a diplomatic stand-off with China since 2015. In May, the country’s national planning agency gave approval to a group of large state-owned companies to import Australian coal again. On take-your-coal-to-work day in 2017, Australia’s former Prime Minister made headlines for taking his coal to work.
